THE LEGENDARY LENA HORNE

Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917 – May 9, 2010) was an American singer, actress, and dancer.

There is not an entertainer alive that doesn't stand on the shoulders of Lena Horne. She was one of the first African-Americans to have cross-over appeal and was a rare gem who excelled, even in a segregated America. She will truly be missed.

"Horne joined the mike chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of sixteen and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood, where she had small parts in numerous movies, and more substantial parts in the films Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather.

Horne announced her retirement in March 1980, but the next year starred in a one woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, which ran for more than three hundred performances on Broadway, and earned her numerous awards and accolades, and she would continue recording and performing sporadically into the 1990s."

Tom Joyner recruits for the Detroit Public School systems

According to Freep.com, a local news outlet for Detroit, Michigan, the nationally syndicated radio personality, Tom Joyner, along with other celebrities including legendary comedian, Bill Cosby, signed up to help DPS attract and retain more students to its district.

"'It's a desperate situation here,' Joyner said, referring to the schools that are closing as enrollment shrinks."

42 schools are set to be closed by June 2010 due to the declining enrollment in Detroit Public Schools.

Joyner presented the school district with $50,000 from Alliance for Digital Equality to be used for computer equipment.

After her best supporting actress win for her role as "Mary" in the movie "Precious", Mo'Nique expressed the importance of honoring Hattie McDaniel in her acceptance speech.

"The reason why I have on this royal blue dress is because it's the color that Hattie McDaniel wore in 1940 when she accepted her Oscar. The reason why I have this gardenia in my hair, it is the flower that Hattie McDaniel wore when she accepted her Oscar. So for you, Miss Hattie McDaniel, I feel you all over me," Mo'Nique said.

Wanda Sykes did it again. I mean, she tore into the Republicans like they were a bag of Doritos. You know...I heart Republicans...some of my best friends are Repubs but I couldn't help but laugh at how Wanda Sykes joked about Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Some may think she was "too harsh", but think about it. Is anybody trying to censor Rush Limbaugh? I mean, personally, I'm starting to think he's in the Klan. He doesn't censor his words when he is attacking Obama or any Democrat for that matter. I don't understand how he can be the voice of the "religious right". Nothing He says or does remind me of Jesus. I'm almost certain Jesus will not be coming for Rush Limbaugh when he comes to receive his Church. Now, was that statement too harsh? Sorry if it was. We'd never get an apology from Rush though....ANYWAY! Enough about that man.

Wanda, if you are reading this, I want you to know that I watched the clip of you 3 times. I still laugh when I think about what you said. IT WAS FUNNY! Plus, on a serious note, I think you put into perspective how foolish the Republicans look and sound defending torture, hoping the administration fails and still letting Sarah Palin make public appearances. And please somebody tell Dick Cheney to shut up! They just don't get it. I demand an apology from the GOP. Who's the Anti-americans now, Repubs? Good job Wanda. And congrats on your new twins.

According to the Associated Press, comedian and actress, Wanda Sykes, has spoken out against Proposition 8 that banned gay-marriage in California. Wanda Sykes revealed her marriage to her female lover. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Sykes told a crowd at a gay rights rally, "You know, I don't really talk about my sexual orientation. I didn't feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the closet, but I was living my life".
